Functions and LogicBlocks
Functions are the logic OpenBack stores and runs. You build them by connecting blocks in a visual editor, and they start from an API call, an event, a webhook or a timer.

Create your first function — Build a function that answers POST /hello with a greeting, reading the name from the request body, and publish it as an API.
Key concepts
- Function
- A unit of logic that belongs to a project, with a name, settings (time limit, what it may read, which identity it acts with) and a graph of blocks.
- LogicBlock (block)
- One step of the logic: read the request, compare two values, call an external URL, answer. It has a type, settings and ports.
- Ports
- The inputs on the left and outputs on the right of a block, each with a data type. Every block also has an Exception output, used when the block fails.
- Connections
- Lines from an output to an input: data travels along them and starts the connected blocks.
- Incoming event
- The data the function starts with: the HTTP request, the event, the webhook or the test JSON.
- Execution
- One run of the function, recorded with what started it, how long it took and how it ended.
